More opportunities in hands-on integrated learning are coming to both JCMS and WSK8 in the 24-25 school year. Our district will add College & Career Ready Labs at both schools to provide an all-encompassing career exploration opportunity.
The lab modules are designed to reinforce core academic subjects while igniting a passion for real-world problem-solving and career exploration. These labs will serve in engaging students in authentic problem-based learning experiences as they discover what interests them. The introduction of lab modules gives our students a head start to flourishing in high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Students will work on the labs throughout a flexible 10-day schedule. Once those 10 days are up, students will rotate and focus their time and efforts on learning a new lab. These labs accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences.
Some examples of labs are computer science, intro to health science careers, video production, robotics, welding basics, computer graphics and game development, cosmetology and barbering, criminalistics and more.
We are partnering with High Desert Education Service District (HDESD) in this effort to bring college and career ready labs to our students. $100K in funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds will cover the costs of these labs.
Additional funding will be used to fund professional development for our educators. The focus will be on cultural relevance and alignment with local workforce needs and career opportunities.
