Introducing Madras High School’s February Athletes of the Month!
We are thrilled to highlight the last round round of athletes who have earned MHS Athlete of the Month for Winter Sports! These exceptional athletes from Boys & Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Wrestling, Swimming, and Cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the court, mat, and in and out of the pool.
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these February stars!

Girls Basketball: Yadira finished the season very strong and earned a well deserved spot on the All League Tri-Valley League Second Team. Her performance on the court improved all season, along with a huge improvement in leadership and attitude. She has a very bright future!!!
– Head Coach Heath Alexander

Boys Basketball: Nakomis has been playing well for us in the month of February. He had 8 points and 3 rebounds against Estacada on senior night and was great on defense. Also his cumulative weighted GPA is 4.16 so he is thriving in the classroom as well.
– Head Coach Nick Brown

Girls Wrestling: Velma did an exceptional job this year for the Girls Wrestling Program. She topped out the team with the highest place at the District tournament placing 5th for her respective weight class. She overcame an elbow injury to wrestling in this tournament and I was proud to see her step up in this way ultimately helping her team place 9th out of 27 teams. She will be missed in the girls wrestling program.
– Head Coach Brad Padgett

Boys Wrestling: Colton Gillespie is a tough competitor and is dedicated to the sport of wrestling. He proved himself as a fierce competitor, qualifying for the OSAA State Championship and securing 32 wins in his freshman season. Colton works hard and is always looking to improve. His work ethic and consistency set a great example and contribute to his success on and off the mat. We are very excited about his future as a White Buffalo wrestler.
– Head Coach Travis Ralls

Swimming: Johan is an outstanding athlete who consistently pushes himself to reach new heights. His dedication and relentless work ethic have led to remarkable improvements, including an impressive 8-second drop in his 200 freestyle at this year’s district meet. Without a doubt, he has earned the title of Athlete of the Month.
– Head Coach Joannah Pendell

Cheerleading: Delilah has really stepped up over the last few months. She was thrown in as a freshman flyer for competition season and is really progressing quickly. She is always the first one to ask what she can do better and makes sure to improve every practice. Just in the last couple weeks she has continued to grow her skill set. Delilah is still working on new skills to carry her into the upcoming cheer year.
– Head Coaches Brittany Killion & Amanda Monroe
