JCSD 509J is spotlighting Susana Ayon, who is the secretary for our Transportation and Maintenance Departments, for the work she does every day in her role.

She started working for the district 10 years ago as an educational assistant at Madras High. After a couple years there, she transitioned over to Buff Elementary where she worked for the next six years as a reading EA and then an ELL EA. She has worked for the transportation and maintenance departments for the last two years.

“What I like about working here is the relationships that I have built with my coworkers, this team is a great team with amazing people and I feel welcome and I feel part of their family,” she said.

Susana first applied for the district because she is bilingual and her oldest daughter was in school. She saw a need for more Spanish speaking employees in our district.

“I wanted to be involved with that and help the parents and the kids as well,” she said. “My parents were some of those people that didn’t speak the language and they needed help with that, so that motivated me.”

Below is her nomination,

“Being a department secretary can be hard. Susana takes on the challenges head on and does the best she can everyday. From doing invoices to answering the bus radio and the phones, she can do it. She has been with our department for a little over 2 years and is a very important member of our team here. Maintenance and transportation are very lucky to have someone like her be here day in and day out. Multitasking is something that can be hard to do for anyone but she does it without complaint and gets it done. Perseverance and determination, and patience are some of the traits that she demonstrates every day.”
