Introducing Madras High School’s September Athletes of the Month!
We are thrilled to kick off the 24-25 school year with MHS Athlete of the Month! These exceptional athletes from cross country, boys and girls soccer, football, volleyball, and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field, court, or course.
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these September stars!
Football: When I think about what it means to work hard and have fun, Gavin Williams is the perfect example. He puts his heart and effort into everything he does on the field, and it’s paying off in a big way. This month, he’s been a game-changer on defense with 14 solo tackles, 6 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 2 interceptions. On special teams, he’s been electric. He scored our team’s first points for the season with an electric punt return for a touchdown. He followed that up a week later by returning the second-half kickoff for another touchdown. Offensively, he’s added 27 rushing yards, 71 receiving yards, and 2 more touchdowns.
What makes Williams stand out isn’t just the stats—he’s having fun while doing it. He works hard, does his job, and is accountable to his teammates. He’s a leader who shows that when you put in the effort, good things happen, and we’ve seen that time and time again with him. He’s more than deserving of Athlete of the Month.
– Head Coach Neil Elshire
Cross Country: This athlete is extremely intentional with his desire to be the absolute best version of himself in all things. Each day he brings the best he can bring to the workout and to his team mates. I have never heard a negative word come from his mouth. He is one of the hardest working men I have known in my lifetime. There is no challenge to great for him. He will let nothing stand in his way of greatness. His dedication shows while he is racing. There is a relentless pursuit to obtain the best position possible in every race. This student athlete is an inspiration.
– Head Coach Brad Padgett
Girls Soccer: Blanca exemplifies leadership on and off the field. She is a captain, leading a defense that is all Freshman outside of her and doing a fantastic job. She plays with grit, never takes a play off, and fully embodies the great qualities we look for to represent our program.
– Head Coach Shawn Darrow
Boys Soccer: Cruz has shown a high level of commitment to his teammates as well as his studies, going from being lax on his school work and attendance to showing up every day and putting in the work to be successful. He contributes a large part to our undefeated league play and hopes to stay on track and transition from Bridges to MHS this year. Cruz has made large gains on and off the field this year and understands the importance of hard work and how big a role it has in his success. His key saves on the field have helped fuel, and motivate the team toward our victories.
– Head Coach Scott Jividen
Volleyball: This athlete is a true leader on our volleyball team and she has so much passion for the game. Her fight in every game is infectious and she has shown great growth in her performance as well making her play in all 6 rotations. She is consistent in her play and overall a great team captain. We are very lucky to have Bre on our team!
– Head Coach Taytum Stevens
Cheerleading: We absolutely love having Delicia on our team! She shows up everyday ready to work. She’s worked through hard mental blocks and has not given up. We appreciate her enthusiasm for cheer and the love she has for her team mates. She has such a sweet spirit and we are so excited to watch her grow.
