MADRAS HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Lunch today:  Hamburger or Cheeseburger, baked oven fries, pork n’ beans OR Yogurt and String Cheese.  All lunches served with milk.

Breakfast tomorrow:  Ham & cheese bagel, peach cup.   All breakfasts served with milk or juice.

Forestry field trip—Prineville—All Day

Link Crew—Choir Rm--Lunch

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Attention Winter Athletes:  you must be registered online and have a current physical on file by Monday, November 13th by practice time.  No paperwork, no practice.
  1. Attention Link Crew members – please meet in the band room today during lunch.
  1. There will be an informational meeting for Swimming in Mr. Hocker’s room 21 on Thursday, November 9th at lunch.  Bring your lunch.  Donuts provided.
  1.  Attention Drama Students:  Elf practice is happening every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  
  1. ATTENTION NHS Members!!!!  Please pay your dues ASAP!  Sign ups for Trail Cleanup are on the board across from Room 25, first come first serve, remember that you must sign up for one this semester.  Get your shirt size to Mr. Hair this week so we can get our shirts ordered.  its a great day to be a White Buffalo!!!!

Attention everyone!  The Sadie Hawkins Dance is coming up soon!  It will be Thursday, November 9th from 8-11pm.  Doors close at 8:30pm.  Tickets will be sold at the door and they are $10 per person.  There will be food, dancing and fun for everyone!  Remember ladies it’s girls ask guys so don’t be afraid to get out there and ask someone!

  1. Attention Seniors!!!! Did you miss meeting with Jostens last week? Well you’re in luck! Representatives from Josten's will be here during lunch on Friday, December 1st.

  1. Hey Juniors! Central Electric Cooperative is offering their Washington DC Youth tour again this June 2018. CEC will sponsor 2 high school juniors on an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity where students are immersed in our nation's history and visit different sites like Mt. Vernon, the White House, and the Smithsonian. The only eligibility criteria is that students must be juniors in high school and their family must be Central Electric Cooperative members. The deadline for applications is December 8th. Please see your counselor for an application. 
  1. Do you want to learn more about skilled trades like:  Welding, 3D printing, Aircraft, Automotive, Construction, Electricians, Manufacturing and more?  Join MHS CTE at the Central Oregon Skilled Trades Fair - November 17th 8:30am-1:30pm.   You will get to meet people working in the industry and participate in hands on activities.  We will bus from MHS.  Space is limited.  Sign up to attend with Cassie in Student Services.
  1. Have you lost an item? Check for it in the "lost and found" now located in the Commons! If you have lost prescription glasses or other valuable items (cell phone, i-pod, jewelry, etc.), check with staff in Student Services. 
  1. Internship opportunities:  come learn more about Youth Career Connect on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1pm to 3:30pm in the future center. 
  1. SENIORS:  We are into the season where you will be requesting that MHS staff fill out reference forms and/or write letters of recommendation for post-secondary institution applications, for scholarships, and for internships or jobs on your behalf.  It takes time for these tasks to be completed; you should plan to give 2-4 weeks of lead time to your reference person.  It is important to make this request in person even if an email is coming from the institution.  Be sure to ask the person what they need to complete your recommendation, provide a resume or list of activities if that will be needed, let him/her know how to turn in the form or letter as well as informing him/her of the deadline.  Often, it is helpful to return to the person a few days before the due date to check in, remind him/her about your deadline.  After the process is complete, a simple in-person thank you is appreciated.  The Future Center has Recommendation Request forms to assist you.  Good luck, Seniors, in your planning this year.  As an MHS staff, we are here to help you as you make your plans.  We are rooting for you!
