MADRAS HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Lunch today:  Hamburger or Cheeseburger, baked oven fries, pork ‘n beans OR Yogurt and String Cheese.  All lunches served with milk.

Breakfast tomorrow:  Sausage cheese bagel, strawberry cup.   All breakfasts served with milk or juice.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Attention Juniors:  Class meeting in Mr. Hair’s room #25 Tuesday and Thursday at lunch.  We will be exploring Prom ideas.
  1. The JROTC Travel team will depart the High School at 2:30pm on Friday, November 17th to compete in the Cascade Mountain League Drill Competition at Lebanon High School.  All participating Cadets are to meet in the ROTC room for a mandatory meeting during lunch on Wednesday, November 15th with their uniforms.  Cadets will need to come to the ROTC room immediately following 6th period on the 17th for departure.  Please take a moment to wish them luck.  JROTC Leads the Way!
  1. Elf the play coming your way- Please come to see Elf on Thursday November 30th or Friday December 1st or Saturday December 2nd all performances will be at 7 pm at Madras Performing Arts Center. Buy your tickets from Misty Adams MHS Bookkeeper or a MHS drama student. Adults pre-sale tickets $5, Student pre-sale tickets $2.Discover Your Inner Elf.
  1. MHS CHAMBER CHOIR is selling SEE's CANDY*** through the end of November to help pay for their spring festival trip. See's chocolate makes a great holiday gift. Choose from several different items. Order from any MHS chamber choir student or speak with Mr. McFarlin. Thanks for helping support the MHS Chamber Choir!
  1. Prospective baseball players, there will be a meeting in Mr. McCormick's room this Thursday during the first 15 minutes of lunch. Off season workout schedules will be handed out. See you there.
  1. ATTENTION MHS Be sure to preorder your 2018 yearbook by Wed Feb 28th for only $50. Prices will increase to $55 March 1st. Books are limited. Once we sell out we won't order more. See Misty at the bookkeeper’s window to reserve your book today!
  1. ATTENTION SENIORS: Do you want your senior picture to be in the yearbook? If so, your pictures are due to Ms PH no later than Fri, Jan 5th, 2018. There are TWO REQUIREMENTS-the photo must be emailed to Ms PH and it needs to be portrait orientation NOT landscape! Please do not wait until the last minute!!

  1. Attention Seniors!!!! Did you miss meeting with Jostens last week? Well you’re in luck! Representatives from Josten's will be here during lunch on Friday, December 1st. 
  1. Hey Juniors! Central Electric Cooperative is offering their Washington DC Youth tour again this June 2018. CEC will sponsor 2 high school juniors on an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity where students are immersed in our nation's history and visit different sites like Mt. Vernon, the White House, and the Smithsonian. The only eligibility criteria is that students must be juniors in high school and their family must be Central Electric Cooperative members. The deadline for applications is December 8th. Please see your counselor for an application. 
  1. Do you want to learn more about skilled trades like:  Welding, 3D printing, Aircraft, Automotive, Construction, Electricians, Manufacturing and more?  Join MHS CTE at the Central Oregon Skilled Trades Fair - November 17th 8:30am-1:30pm.   You will get to meet people working in the industry and participate in hands on activities.  We will bus from MHS.  Space is limited.  Sign up to attend with Cassie in Student Services.
  1. Have you lost an item? Check for it in the "lost and found" now located in the Commons! If you have lost prescription glasses or other valuable items (cell phone, i-pod, jewelry, etc.), check with staff in Student Services. 
  1. Internship opportunities:  come learn more about Youth Career Connect on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1pm to 3:30pm in the future center. 
  1. SENIORS:  We are into the season where you will be requesting that MHS staff fill out reference forms and/or write letters of recommendation for post-secondary institution applications, for scholarships, and for internships or jobs on your behalf.  It takes time for these tasks to be completed; you should plan to give 2-4 weeks of lead time to your reference person.  It is important to make this request in person even if an email is coming from the institution.  Be sure to ask the person what they need to complete your recommendation, provide a resume or list of activities if that will be needed, let him/her know how to turn in the form or letter as well as informing him/her of the deadline.  Often, it is helpful to return to the person a few days before the due date to check in, remind him/her about your deadline.  After the process is complete, a simple in-person thank you is appreciated.  The Future Center has Recommendation Request forms to assist you.  Good luck, Seniors, in your planning this year.  As an MHS staff, we are here to help you as you make your plans.  We are rooting for you!
